Football 1X2 Odds Explained: How to Calculate Implied Probability

Learn what 1, X and 2 mean and how to turn a set of decimal odds into implied probabilities and normalized shares.

What do 1, X and 2 mean?

1 means a home win, X means a draw and 2 means an away win. Check the home-away order and the period covered. For example, China Sports Lottery’s football 1X2 game uses the result after regulation and stoppage time.

How do you convert odds of 2.00, 3.50 and 4.00?

Divide 1 by each decimal price. The implied figures are 50.00%, 28.57% and 25.00%, adding up to 103.57%. Divide each figure by the sum to get normalized shares of about 48.28%, 27.59% and 24.14%. Rounding can leave the total slightly above or below 100%.

What does a shorter price tell you?

A move from 2.00 to 1.80 raises the implied figure from 50.00% to 55.56%. Compare the same source, market and relevant timestamps, and check the other two prices as well. The calculation describes the quote. The match result is still uncertain.
